Heat-pump rebates after the federal credit ended
The federal 25C tax credit (up to $2,000 for a heat pump) and 25D ended on 31 December 2025. That changed the landscape — but it did not remove everything:
- State Home Energy Rebates (HEAR/HEEHRA) — funded by the IRA and administered by each state. Many are now live; some are fully reserved. These can cover a large share of a heat pump for income-qualified households.
- Utility rebates — many electric utilities offer their own heat-pump incentives, separate from federal or state programs.
- State tax credits in a few states.
This site lists, per state, the programs that still exist after the federal repeal, with the amount, income rule and current status (open, reserved, waitlist).
Programs change frequently and funding pots run out — this is a starting point, not eligibility confirmation. Always verify with DSIRE, your state energy office and your utility before buying.
